||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
●指定教科書 Required Texts Lee, L. & E. Gundersen. 2011. SELECT READINGS INTERMEDIATE SECOND EDITION. Oxford University Press. ●參考書資料暨網路資源 Reference Books and Online Resources * = mandatory (*記號代表務必使用之學習資源) * 1. E-learn網路學園(http://elearn.scu.edu.tw) The University E-learn platform will be used to record your learning process. Supplementary materials and grades of your work will be uploaded here. All the participants in this class are also required to complete online tasks and submit written assignments on this platform. To meet weekly computer-controlled deadlines, you are strongly advised to log on this website regularly to complete your work. 本組將利用網路學園記錄您的英文學習與成績,老師會上傳課堂講授的課文解析內容,您也必須透過網路學園繳交作業並完成E-learn測驗。作業及測驗繳交期限由電腦設定,請務必每週登入平台進行英文作業,這是培養自律學習的第一步。 * 2. StudioClassroom, readers or other more materials which can be used to develop extensive reading skills at the Self-Access Centre (外語自學室G103) There is not ONE textbook which is sufficient to improve English proficiency. Therefore it is an excellent idea to make full use of self-access resources and develop your own independent learning programme. The Self-Access Centre holds materials relevant to your interests in several different areas and the self-access staff are a very valuable source of information and will give help if requested. 要持續提升英文能力或不讓自己退步,光唸課本是不夠的,需要額外的自學計畫並培養廣泛閱讀的習慣。請善用外語自學室,依據您課表上的空堂,每週至少安排5小時固定時段至外語自學室自學,將自學列入您的課表。 學生常見的英文學習問題: (1) 「字彙量太少,如何提升?」 Learn vocabulary from context. Azar Fundamentals of English Grammar 3. Useful online dictionaries (1) Longman English Dictionary Online (http://www.ldoceonline.com/) (2) Cambridge Dictionaries Online (http://dictionary.cambridge.org/) (3) Macmillan Dictionary and Thesaurus (http://www.macmillandictionary.com/) (4) Oxford Collocation Dictionary Online for Advanced English Learners (http://www.ozdic.com/) 為正確了解字的意義及用法,請使用英英字典學習。老師推薦以上4種英英線上字典,但是不建議您以Yahoo!奇摩字典、Dr. Eye或中文網站的英漢線上字典做為唯一的查詢來源。 4. 雙溪外語自學室Facebook粉絲專頁(http://www.facebook.com/SoochowSAC) The Self-Access Centre has a facebook fan page. Information regarding English learning will be circulated through this network. 'Like' the page and stay connected with the language learning community. 給雙溪外語自學室按「讚」,透過Facebook就能得知更多語言學習的訊息,老師會在這裡不定期發布有趣的課外學習素材。
三、教學目標 Objectives | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This module aims to: 1. develop participants' reading comprehension, vocabulary and basic writing skills through intensive study of the core text (統一考試要評量的能力) 2. equip participants with general academic reading strategies, such as understanding patterns of organisation, notetaking, summarising, recognising paragraph transitions, and paraphrasing (從課本要學到的能力) 3. help participants to establish their own independent learning programme and engage themselves in constant and active learning. (培養自主學習能力) By the end of the module, participants should be able to: 1. know how to learn and process new vocabulary 2. understand the main points of clear written readings 3. analyse each text and think critically about the author's intent 4. produce simple connected text on topics which have been covered during the course. |

四、課程內容 Course Description
●整體敘述 Overall Description Working methods and assignments: 1. Two-hour class session for 15 weeks 2. Two complementary strands: (1) MICRO approach to intensive reading and writing through use of the core text material (2) MACRO perspective of how we build reading fluency in relation to future language test preparation or academic needs 3. Combination of lecture input, discussion, tasks and activities 4. Some of the course will involve reading out loud or speaking in public. You will be asked to take an active role in all the sessions. 課堂會抽點同學朗讀、回答問題、翻譯講解或分組討論,每次課堂發言將會評分,發言完整得體者才能得分。如發言音量過小、主旨模糊、草率簡略、一再重複他人觀點、與主題無關或不友善不尊重的言論將不會獲得任何分數,請課前預習課文並練習朗讀,抽點時不在課堂者則記錄為當日缺席。 5. To help you think over what you are learning and monitor how well you are doing, you will be asked to do one-minute reflection and write down your personal thoughts in weekly class sessions. Your attendance record and learning attitude will be shown via these one-minute papers. 本組強調學習者的反思技巧,每週課堂結束時要填寫one-minute reflection小紙條,藉以培養聆聽(listening)、整體思考(holistic thinking)、提問(questioning)以及自我評量(self-evaluating)的能力。每週的小紙條也將做為出席率與學習態度的實證,請注意:本組點名方式是看one-minute reflection是否記錄詳實並是否有進行正面積極的審慎性思考。 6. Each one of you is required to keep an English learning log in which weekly entries should be made. This log is intended to be used as a record of your independent learning done in the Self-Access Centre. 本組特別注重同學「自律學習」的意願、態度及發展情形,English Learning Log即在考核您的自學能力及歷程。第二學期將著重訓練自學技巧並使用多數學生較少主動接觸的自學素材,自學素材將由老師指定使用外語自學室的資源,開學後會陸續公布在網路學園課程公告板。自學紀錄如填寫不清楚、沒有按部就班每週進行自學或沒有使用老師指定的自學教材不予評分。 7. Online assignments will normally include sentence-making, short paragraph writing and reading comprehension exercises. 造句/段落寫作作業以及E-learn閱讀測驗限在網路學園進行繳交,不接受紙本,所以請留意截止日期。 8. Previewing tasks as well as vocabulary or short-essay pop quizzes will be given out in order to help you study the content of the prescribed texts. 預習作業或單字簡答小考則以A4紙張手寫繳交,可幫助您課前課後強化學習印象。 |

八、建議先修課程 Suggested Prerequisite Course
九、課程其他要求 Other Requirements
1. PLAGIARISM AND ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT Assignments, quizzes and exams must be your own work. Cheating, using notes during a test, copying from another, unauthorised advance access to exams or cooperation with another person in an academically dishonest undertaking can result in a mark of zero, possible failure in this module and a report to the University. For homework, it is OK to talk with other students about the assignment, ask each other questions and in general learn from each other. But the assignment you hand in must be your own original work or thoughts. Do not be tempted to cut and paste text from the Internet. If other students or sources gave you significant help with your homework you should briefly acknowledge them in what you hand in. 2. CONTRIBUTION TO IN-CLASS DISCUSSION Participants are encouraged to contribute to in-class discussion. It helps you to develop a better understanding of the knowledge and topics which are covered during the course. Please note that comments that are vague, repetitive, unrelated to the current topic and purpose, or without sufficient foundation will be evaluated negatively and regarded as disrespectful of your colleagues. Bonus point opportunities will be provided to any participant who is assessed as an adequate, good or outstanding contributor. As you know, one point or two can sometimes make a difference. 課前預習並參與每週課堂討論絕對可以幫助您更瞭解授課內容,把握機會積極發言者更可以獲得加分,惟發言音量過小、主旨模糊、草率簡略、一再重複他人觀點、與主題無關或不友善不尊重的言論則不予加分。(注意:缺席超過6小時、缺交自學週記、缺交造句段落寫作作業或預習作業達3次者皆不適用課堂發言加分機會) 3. ATTENDANCE AT CLASSES (A) Students are expected to attend all classes on time within this module except for SERIOUS medical reasons or official leaves (for either which a supporting certificate will be needed within one week, and additional assessed work or a written examination may be specially set for the student concerned). This is in the interest of fairness to all students. A student who fails to achieve a satisfactory attendance record (which means more than 6 hours of absences) will be penalised by a significant reduction in his/her course grade by the following amount: More than 6 hours of absences: a 10% reduction in the course grade More than 10 hours of absences: a 20% reduction in the course grade Beyond 12 hours of absences, the course grade will be below 50%. * Two late arrivals/early leaves = One absence 準時出席是考核學習態度的指標之一,做好健康及生活管理是您的責任,避免缺席或遲到。為求公平,本組不接受一般看診或藥單證明,僅接受「重大性」病假以及為校為國服務的公假,並須於1週內提交醫療證明或正式公假證明。缺席超過6小時,扣學期總成績10分;超過10小時,扣20分;超過12小時,學期總成績將低於50分;2次遲到早退視同缺席1次。 (B) To help you to think over what you are learning and monitor how well you are doing, you will be asked to do one-minute reflection and write down your personal thoughts in weekly class sessions. Your attendance record and learning attitude will be shown via these one-minute papers. 本組注重同學的反思技巧,每週課堂結束時要填寫one-minute reflection小紙條,藉以培養聆聽(listening)、整體思考(holistic thinking)、提問(questioning)以及自我評量(self-evaluating)的能力。每週的小紙條也將做為出席率與學習態度的實證,請注意:本組點名方式是看one-minute reflection是否記錄詳實並是否有進行正面積極的審慎性思考。 4. ASSIGNMENT SUBMISSION DATES AND EXTENSIONS It is essential that all assignments should be handed in at designated submission dates. Late assignments will not be accepted. Except for SERIOUS medical reasons (for which a supporting certificate will be needed), extensions are not given. Minor ailments or computer failures are not considered to be an adequate reason for requesting an extension. 造句作業及線上習題必須在網路上準時完成繳交,不接受任何其他形式的遲交或補做,隨堂小考則不予補考。公假者請提前完成應繳交的作業,個人電腦問題不能成為遲交或補做的原因,唯「重大」病假者可與老師個別討論繳交時間。
