三、教學目標 Objectives
我們日常生活中隨處可見統計，而統計也是幫助我們理解社會現象、發現事件趨勢的重要且有力的工具。許多人對統計心生畏懼，認為統計是一堆數學公式之類的符號跟公式推演，然而統計不僅僅如此，更廣義地來看，統計是一門資料蒐集、整理、分析和解釋的學問。本統計課程乃針對政治系碩士班學生設計，旨在讓學生對於統計方法之使用有一正確概念，對於統計分析之結果能有正確之解讀，以期能適當運用於理解政治現象。有關統計原理之說明，力求平易，儘量減少統計相關之數學定理證明，課程內容將涵蓋抽樣方法、描述性統計、機率論、估計與檢定、變異數分析、相關分析與迴歸分析。另外，本課程使用的統計軟體是SPSS。

學習統計需要不斷的練習與複習，才能夠熟練地運用之，所以本課程除了理論與概念介紹之外，也會配合教學課程內容，指定相關作業和練習。統計實習課程，原則上，每週上課一次，將由統計助教教導和協助同學操作與使用SPSS。
It is common to see statistics in our daily life. Statistics is not just mathematical formulas, but a tool for students of social science to understand social and political phenomenon. In general, statistics is a knowledge of data collections, data analysis and data interpretation. This course is designed for MA students of the department of Political Science. It aims to enables students with skill and knowledge in interpreting statistical results and carry out their research. The topics of this course includes sampling method, description statistics, probability, estimation and Tests. ANOVA analysis, correlation and regression analysis. SPSS software will be introduced in this class as well. SPSS practicum course will be offered by the TA once a week to enable students with ability in using SPSS.
