| 三、教學目標 Objectives |
作為研究所學生當然要知道如何做研究，更重要的是要知道如何思考，如何發掘問題，如何面對問題，以及如何解決與分析問題。國人往往對於什麼是研究創作，什麼是抄襲的分際並不清楚，以致有關抄襲之爭議層出不窮。希望這門課能讓研究生真正的瞭解什麼才是屬於自己的研究。
本課程旨在幫助學生瞭解如何使用科學的方法來瞭解和分析政治現象，並且學習各種研究之方法與技巧。事實上，本課程所討論的問題與方法都是所有社會科學、甚至自然科學所共同面臨的。本課程內容將包括：科學探討的特性、科學的解釋和其它解釋之比較、理論與研究之結合，量度、信度和效度之探討、研究藍圖之設計以及各種資料的搜集方法，包括質化 (qualitative) 與量化 (quantitative)的研究。除此之外，更希望讓同學瞭解如何撰寫學術論文，特別是碩博士論文。

| The objective of this course is to learn how to use different research methods to analyze political science related issues and phenomenon. The students will learn how to ask proper research question, how to conduct literature review, how to collect data, how to analyze the findings and how to write a conclusive report. |

八、建議先修課程 Suggested Prerequisite Course |
【研究設計報告內容】
研究設計報告題目不拘，只要與政治主題相關即可。最好是選擇與自己研究興趣符合的題目，將來或許可以此作為論文proposal 之準備。
研究計劃報告應包括下列幾項步驟：
1. Problem Statement --報告首先陳述選擇此題目之原因以及此問題在政治學上的重要性。
2. Literature Review --重要的文獻檢閱亦包括在內。文獻檢閱將有助於你對問題的瞭解以及假設的形成，更可以突顯你的研究之重要性。
3. 理論架構—理論是論文的核心部分，有好的理論方能將片斷的事實串聯起來。
4. Hypothesis -- 報告內容亦應包括你的假設是什麼﹖以及你將如何測試你的假設﹖為什麼﹖陳述假設時必需將重要的concept 定義清楚，並且提出將要用那些變數來衡量它們。同時，有關reliability 和validity的問題也應在討論之列。最後，亦應描述你將如何搜集資料，以及在何處可以搜集到資料。
5. 最後則討論研究計劃中可能遭遇之問題與困難，以及因應之道。
6. 當然參考書目亦必需列入(必須有正式之學術註釋形式)。請依照本系研究生手冊內之論文規範格式。拒絕接受任何不合乎規範之報告。
7. 請打字後交出。

九、課程其他要求 Other Requirements |
【Course Requirements】
1.本課程將以討論和演講方式交互進行，學生必需事前準備，以便上課討論。準備與討論是很重要的。無故不到兩次以上者，請下次再修了。
2.每堂課將指定學生輪流報告閱讀心得。報告請切重點，並於報告前一晚9:00以前將書面大綱e-mail給老師和每位同學。沒有報告的同學也要念相關資料。
3.作業：為使同學更深入瞭解課程內容，有些單元有作業的配合。作業是於該單元討論後之下一個星期繳交(除非另有註明)。
4.期末時，每位學生必需繳交一篇研究設計報告，先於6月12日口頭報告，書面報告截止日期為7月25日,請準時交報告。
5.期末考：6月19日。
