Objectives
This course centers on the relationship between science and literature, examining how scientific knowledge is articulated, transformed, and communicated across different contexts through three genres: science fiction, popular science writing, and nature writing. The course emphasizes the dynamic interaction between science and narrative, exploring how scientific ideas generate meaning, shape values, and influence social imagination. Through close reading and comparative analysis, students will develop skills in recognizing narrative strategies, engaging in cross-genre reading, and practicing critical thinking. The course ultimately highlights that science is not merely a collection of facts, but a cultural practice that profoundly shapes social values and human self-understanding.
Course Description
Overall Description
